Thanksgiving in Canada is the 2nd Monday in October, and it’s the perfect time to give thanks, especially for our furry family members who fill our lives with unconditional love. Instead of just sneaking your pup a few scraps under the table, why not plan a Thanksgiving feast both you and your dog can enjoy safely?
Here’s how to create a delicious, tail-wagging celebration everyone at the table will love.
Good news, plain, cooked turkey (without seasoning, garlic, or onions) is perfectly safe for dogs! Before you add salt or butter, set aside a few slices of white meat for your pup. Skip the skin and bones, both can cause tummy issues or worse. Serve this on a slow feeder bowl to avoid the mess.
Your pup can enjoy some sides too! Try mashed sweet potatoes, steamed green beans, or a few spoonfuls of plain pumpkin puree (no sugar added). These are rich in vitamins and fiber, and make for a perfect mini “dog plate.” Or add a touch of dog-safe gravy, like this low-sodium pet gravy mix, for a gourmet twist your dog will love.
Instead of sharing your pie (too much sugar and spice!), whip up easy no-bake pumpkin treats:
Mix ½ cup pumpkin puree, 2 tbsp peanut butter, and 1 cup oat flour. Roll into small balls and chill ... voilà! A healthy dessert your pup can enjoy while you dig into yours.
Thanksgiving isn’t just about food, it’s about gratitude and togetherness. Our little one is always treated very special throughout the year as we are so grateful for a loyal and beautiful pup who is our family. Let your dog be part of the celebration with a safe, shared meal and maybe an after-dinner walk through the crisp fall leaves.
This year, make it a true family feast, because gratitude is best shared, paw to hand.
